I'm back...

It’s been about 5 months and now it’s time for me to jump back in. Not sure where to start (I’ve been sewing up a storm ever since making Jana a camera case in August), so I’ll pick up where I left off…

The playhouse (here you go, Karee) -- that’s how it looked at the end of the summer. Porch done, shingles on, door latches finally installed, window still needs some work. (Notice the window frame laying there on the porch?)
Now it's covered in and surrounded by about 6 inches of snow. And I forgot to bring in all the stuff that was inside! Oops.

The trip I went on to Cleveland in June (that is part of the reason for the long break) is still having fantastic ramifications in my life – yay! It’s always nice when your “mountaintop experience” doesn’t fade into forgottenness after only a week or so.

And my kitchen counters? Well, see for yourself. Here's a reminder of what they looked like in July…

And this is what they looked like last night! Tada! See all the vast improvements? (Other than turning off the flash!)

No really, demessing progress is being made. I’ll get there. See, this is what it looked like after I gave it a little attention tonight. Aaaahhh…

And as my "reward" for tidying up instead of sitting on the couch eating bonbons leftover Halloween candy (I should probably throw that out now, eh?), I worked some more on Lumpy the Elephant and wrote up this blog post. I'd like to show you Lumpy and his sidekicks (I need some advice), but that will have to wait for another day. In the mean time, I’ll show you a project I finally finished over Thanksgiving at my in-laws. I'd already finished the angel, hobby horse, and dove and had cut out all the parts for Santa... back in middle school! As in, 20 or so years ago! I'm really happy I finally completed the set! By the way, to my friend who shall remain nameless: rick-rack is the zigzag trim these ornaments are covered in.
So, here's to finishing, not just starting stuff! Anyone else have a project (crafty or otherwise) that you should REALLY finish up? Any chance it'll get done before Christmas?

  1. Yay!!! You're back! Cute ornaments! And your counter looks FANTASTIC! Now it's maintenance time. I really was hoping to get my 2008 pictures up until now put in my scrapbook. I'd say there's a 99.9% chance it won't be finished before Christmas.

  2. Woohoo!! I'm so excited to see you writing again! Although, I'm not looking forward to the shame that I am certain to feel after looking at all the cool, creative stuff you make all the time. I was just thinking about you while trying to make a home-made Christmas present for a family member. We have one "home-made only" celebration. God didn't make me for "home-made" creations. As I stood looking at my project that I wasn't very happy with, the only thing that came to mind was "Karin would know what to do. Karin would have done this in half the time and it would be 20 gazillion times cooler!" I NEED YOU! Next year, I'm thinking I should hire you for my home-made celebration crafts! :-)

(p.s. -- the plant on your counter has grown)

  3. Thanks for the Welcome Backs, ladies.

Kristi -- Yeah, I don't think you've ever seen my counter like that before. Clean. : ) Hmm, was about to congratulate you on the scrapbook I saw open and in progress last time I was there -- as in, Yay you, you're getting there! Then remembered it was of Karly & Will's wedding. Which was in January. Are you going in chronological order?

Delilah, if it makes you feel any better, I can't count how many times I'm at a loss about some issue (parenting, homekeeping, spousing, etc) and think "I should call 'Delilah'; I need to know what she'd do in this situation..." You're a wise woman, girl!
(p.s. I most certainly will help you with any and all crafty crises. But that whole "done in half the time" thing -- Ken would loudly laugh at that statement!)

  4. Karin,

Glad your back!! Your messy counters would be my "clean" counters right now. I feel like someone picked my house up and shook the snot out of it and then set it back down and said "clean it!!"......if only the snot would have left!!! That is all I am left with these days.

Where to begin?!!! Cleaning house is low on the totem pole. I cant wait to meet you someday. I want to once in my life see one of Karee's babies as a baby.....if only she will have one more! If I ever get up there I hope to meet you!

  5. Karin,

Are you using felted sweaters or wool felt or the other stuff? I would use some sort of iron on interfacing before you cut out your ornament. When I did these on the bag...which by the way will most likely be the only one ever made because it took 2 hours just to put the circles on....I used the double zigzag stitch. Or the super stretch feature on my machine. What kind of machine do you have?

I put this on my site too, not knowing where you would look first.

  6. Cindy, thanks for replying. My zigzag question on your site wasn't actually about the felt ornaments but about some little girl purses I make, with their monogram on the flap. I think I'll post that next, since I'm midway through yet another one.

Two hours. Ugh. But it sure looks cute!!!
